19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Now collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after spring of that year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour title, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
